Screaming Weenie appoints new Managing Artistic Director
VANCOUVER, BC Screaming Weenie Productions is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Managing Artistic Director, Seán Cummings.
Seán comes to Screaming Weenie following many years as a professional actor, director and producer. He is a creator of Vancouver’s Queerly Canadian Theatre Series, was Co-Artistic Director of Meta.for Theatre from 2004 to 2008, and has directed numerous new-queer works in recent years including, ‘Men Like Trees’ at the World Aids Day Conference, ‘Crossing’ at the PTC and the Jessie-nominated ‘Broken’ at the Firehall Arts Centre.
“Screaming Weenie is filled with an energetic and talented group of people,” says Seán, “and I am confident that we will continue to nurture the company as a creative force in our community and be an instrument of positive cultural contribution to the city.”
The board and company wish to express their heartfelt thanks to Weenie founder and outgoing Managing Artistic Director llena Cramer, for her years of dedication, hard work and her vision for this company. On her departure, Ilena exclaims, “Can you believe it’s been 10 years since I first called myself a Weenie?! I am so proud of everyone who has been screaming all these years with me, and humbled by the audience who listened. Thanks for letting me play with you. I’m super pleased to see how much joy and vision Seán brings. Keep living LOUD!”
Screaming Weenie Productions has been producing theatre works in Vancouver since 2000 with a mission to produce and promote queer and sex-positive performance, to support a strong queer cultural community, and to create greater positive public awareness and acceptance of queer individuals and groups outside of sex and gender norms.
