As the boldest voice of queer theatre on the west coast, Screaming Weenie has become synonymous with outrageous, sex positive performance. The company was born in Alaska and conceived from the sweat of founders Matthew Bennet, Ilena Lee Cramer, Dale Kohlmetz and Kären Matthews. It soon became apparent that a Weenie, screaming or no, yearns for warmer, damper climes. So off to Vancouver the Weenie went, settling comfortably in the rainy city. It was here that Ilena and the Weenie found its footing with
an explosion of creativity and energy, launching seven shows in five years to become a major voice in the city's artistic community and a creative beacon in queer Canada. In 2008, Seán Cummings became the Weenie's new Managing Artistic Director.
